Our Nation's foes lament on Fox's deathA
But bless the hour when PITT resign'd his breathA
These feelings wide let Sense and Truth unclueB
We give the palm where Justice points its dueC

Oh factious viper whose envenom'd toothD
Would mangle still the dead perverting truthD
What though our nation's foes lament the fateE
With generous feeling of the good and greatE
Shall dastard tongues essay to blast the nameF
Of him whose meed exists in endless fameF
When PITT expir'd in plenitude of powerG
Though ill success obscur'd his dying hourG
Pity her dewy wings before him spreadH
For noble spirits war not with the deadH
His friends in tears a last sad requiem gaveI
As all his errors slumber'd in the graveI
He sunk an Atlas bending 'neath the weightE
Of cares o'erwhelming our conflicting stateE
When lo a Hercules in Fox appear'dJ
Who for a time the ruin'd fabric rear'dJ
He too is fall'n who Britain's loss suppliedK
With him our fast reviving hopes have diedK
Not one great people only raise his urnL
All Europe's far extended regions mournM
These feelings wide let Sense and Truth undueC
To give the palm where Justice points its dueC
Yet let not canker'd Calumny assailB
Or round her statesman wind her gloomy veilB
FOX o'er whose corse a mourning world must weepN
Whose dear remains in honour'd marble sleepN
For whom at last e'en hostile nations groanO
While friends and foes alike his talents ownO
Fox shall in Britain's future annals shineP
Nor e'en to PITT the patriot's 'palm' resignP
Which Envy wearing Candour's sacred maskQ
For PITT and PITT alone has dar'd to askQ
