On Revisiting Harrow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BCDE FGFG HIJI

Here once engaged the stranger's viewA
Young Friendship's record simply tracedB
Few were her words but yet though fewA
Resentment's hand the line defacedB
-
Deeply she cut but not erasedB
The characters were still so painC
That Friendship once return'd and gazedD
Till Memory hail'd the words againE
-
Repentance placed them as beforeF
Forgiveness join d her gentle nameG
So fair the inscription seem'd once moreF
That Friendship thought it still the sameG
-
Thus might the Record now have beenH
But ah in spite of Hopes endeavourI
Or Friendships tears Pride rush'd betweenJ
And blotted out the line for everI
