On Revisiting Harrow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BCDE FGFG HIJIHere once engaged the stranger's view | A |
Young Friendship's record simply traced | B |
Few were her words but yet though few | A |
Resentment's hand the line defaced | B |
- | |
Deeply she cut but not erased | B |
The characters were still so pain | C |
That Friendship once return'd and gazed | D |
Till Memory hail'd the words again | E |
- | |
Repentance placed them as before | F |
Forgiveness join d her gentle name | G |
So fair the inscription seem'd once more | F |
That Friendship thought it still the same | G |
- | |
Thus might the Record now have been | H |
But ah in spite of Hopes endeavour | I |
Or Friendships tears Pride rush'd between | J |
And blotted out the line for ever | I |
