| Few were her words but yet though few | A |
| Resentment's hand the line defaced | B |

| That Friendship once return'd and gazed | D |
| Till Memory hail'd the words again | E |

| Repentance placed them as before | F |
| Forgiveness join d her gentle name | G |
| So fair the inscription seem'd once more | F |
| That Friendship thought it still the same | G |

| Thus might the Record now have been | H |
| But ah in spite of Hopes endeavour | I |
| Or Friendships tears Pride rush'd between | J |
| And blotted out the line for ever | I |
