On Leaving Newstead Abbey Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC BABA DEDF DGDG HIHI HJHJ AKAK LALA

'Why dost thou build the hall son of the winged days Thou lookest from thy tower to day yet a few years and the blast of the desert comes it howls in thy empty court ' OssianA
-
-
Through thy battlements Newstead the hollow winds whistleB
Thou the hall of my fathers art gone to decayC
In thy once smiling garden the hemlock and thistleB
Have choked up the rose which late bloom'd in the wayC
-
Of the mail cover'd Barons who proudly to battleB
Led their vassals from Europe to Palestine's plainA
The escutcheon and shield which with every blast rattleB
Are the only sad vestiges now that remainA
-
No more doth old Robert with harp stringing numbersD
Raise a flame in the breast for the war laurell'd wreathE
Near Askalon's towers John of Horistan slumbersD
Unnerved is the hand of his minstrel by deathF
-
Paul and Hubert too sleep in the valley of CressyD
For the safety of Edward and England they fellG
My fathers the tears of your country redress yeD
How you fought how you died still her annals can tellG
-
On Marston with Rupert 'gainst traitors contendingH
Four brothers enrich'd with their blood the bleak fieldI
For the rights of a monarch their country defendingH
Till death their attachment to royalty seal'dI
-
Shades of heroes farewell your descendant departingH
From the seat of his ancestors bids you adieuJ
Abroad or at home your remebrance impartingH
New courage he'll think upon glory and youJ
-
Though a tear dim his eye at this sad separationA
'Tis nature not fear that excites his regretK
Far distant he goes with the same emulationA
The fame of his fathers he ne'er can forgetK
-
That fame and that memory still will he cherishL
He vows that he ne'er will disgrace your renownA
Like you will he live or like you will he perishL
When decay'd may he mingle his dust with your ownA
