On Jordan's banks the Arab's camels strayB
On Sion's hill the False One's votaries prayB
The Baal adorer bows on Sinai's steepC
Yet there even there Oh God thy thunders sleepC
-
There where thy finger scorch'd the tablet stoneD
There where thy shadow to thy people shoneD
Thy glory shrouded in its garb of fireE
Thyself none living see and not expireF
-
Oh in the lightning let thy glance appearG
Sweep from his shiver'd hand the oppressor's spearG
How long by tyrants shall thy land be trodH
How long thy temple worshipless Oh GodH
