Lines Written Beneath An Elm In The Churchyard Of Harrow. [1] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH IIJJHHAAKKLLMNOOPP

Spot of my youth whose hoary branches sighA
Swept by the breeze that fans thy cloudless skyA
Where now alone I muse who oft have trodB
With those I loved thy soft and verdant sodB
With those who scatter'd far perchance deploreC
Like me the happy scenes they knew beforeC
Oh as I trace again thy winding hillD
Mine eyes admire my heart adores thee stillD
Thou drooping Elm beneath whose boughs I layE
And frequent mus'd the twilight hours awayE
Where as they once were wont my limbs reclineF
But ah without the thoughts which then were mineF
How do thy branches moaning to the blastG
Invite the bosom to recall the pastG
And seem to whisper as they gently swellH
Take while thou canst a lingering last farewellH
-
When Fate shall chill at length this fever'd breastI
And calm its cares and passions into restI
Oft have I thought 'twould soothe my dying hourJ
If aught may soothe when Life resigns her powerJ
To know some humbler grave some narrow cellH
Would hide my bosom where it lov'd to dwellH
With this fond dream methinks 'twere sweet to dieA
And here it linger'd here my heart might lieA
Here might I sleep where all my hopes aroseK
Scene of my youth and couch of my reposeK
For ever stretch'd beneath this mantling shadeL
Press'd by the turf where once my childhood play'dL
Wrapt by the soil that veils the spot I lov'dM
Mix'd with the earth o'er which my footsteps mov'dN
Blest by the tongues that charm'd my youthful earO
Mourn'd by the few my soul acknowledged hereO
Deplor'd by those in early days alliedP
And unremember'd by the world besideP
