Lines Addressed To A Young Lady Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HIEI JKJK LMLM NKNK OPOP HQHR

Doubtless sweet girl the hissing leadA
Wafting destruction o'er thy charmsB
And hurtling o'er thy lovely headA
Has fill'd that breast with fond alarmsB
-
Surely some envious demon's forceC
Vex'd to behold such beauty hereD
Impell'd the bullet's viewless courseC
Diverted from its first careerE
-
Yes in that nearly fatal hourF
The ball obey'd some hell born guideG
But Heaven with interposing powerF
In pity turn'd the death asideG
-
Yet as perchance one trembling tearH
Upon that thrilling bosom fellI
Which I th' unconscious cause of fearE
Extracted fromn its glistening cellI
-
Say what dire penance can atoneJ
For such an outrage done to theeK
Arraign'd before thy beauty's throneJ
What punishment wilt thou decreeK
-
Might I perform the judge's partL
The sentence I should scarce deploreM
It only would restore a heartL
Which but belong'd to thee beforeM
-
The least atonement I can makeN
Is to become no longer freeK
Henceforth I breathe but for thy sakeN
Thou shalt be all in all to meK
-
But thou perhaps may'st now rejectO
Such expiation of my guiltP
Come then some other mode electO
Let it be death or what thou wiltP
-
Choose then relentless and I swearH
Nought shall thy dread decree preventQ
Yet hold one little word forbearH
Let it be aught but banishmentR
