Jeptha's Daughter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC ADEE FFEE GGHH GGGG

Since our Country our God Oh my SireA
Demand that thy Daughter expireB
Since thy triumph was brought by thy vowC
Strike the bosom that's bared for thee nowC
-
And the voice of my mourning is o'erA
And the mountains behold me no moreD
If the hand that I love lay me lowE
There cannot be pain in the blowE
-
And of this oh my Father be sureF
That the blood of thy child is as pureF
As the blessing I beg ere it flowE
And the last thought that soothes me belowE
-
Though the virgins of Salem lamentG
Be the judge and the hero unbentG
I have won the great battle for theeH
And my Father and Country are freeH
-
When this blood of thy giving hath gush'dG
When the voice that thou lovest is hush'dG
Let my memory still be thy prideG
And forget not I smiled as I diedG
