If Sometimes In The Haunts Of Men Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDD EFEFGAHA BIBIJFJF BABKBJBJ AAAAAFAF

If sometimes in the haunts of menA
Thine image from my breast may fadeB
The lonely hour presents againA
The semblance of thy gentle shadeB
And now that sad and silent hourC
Thus much of thee can still restoreD
And sorrow unobserved may pourD
The plaint she dare not speak beforeD
-
Oh pardon that in crowds awhileE
I waste one thought I owe to theeF
And self condemn'd appear to smileE
Unfaithful to thy memoryF
Nor deem that memory less dearG
That then I seem not to repineA
I would not fools should overhearH
One sigh that should be wholly thineA
-
If not the goblet pass unquaff'dB
It is not drain'd to banish careI
The cup must hold a deadlier draughtB
That brings a Lethe for despairI
And could Oblivion set my soulJ
From all her troubled visions freeF
I'd dash to earth the sweetest bowlJ
That drown'd a single thought of theeF
-
For wert thou vanish'd from my mindB
Where could my vacant bosom turnA
And who would then remain behindB
To honour thine abandon'd UmK
No no it is my sorrow's prideB
That last dear duty to fulfilJ
Though all the world forget besideB
'Tis meet that I remember stillJ
-
For well I know that such had beenA
Thy gentle care for him who nowA
Unmourn'd shall quit this mortal sceneA
Where none regarded him but thouA
And oh I feel in that was givenA
A blessing never meant for meF
Thou wert too like a dream of HeavenA
For earthly Love to merit theeF
