Herod's Lament For Mariamne Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCB DBDBEBEB FBFBGBGB

Oh Mariamne now for theeA
The heart of which thou bled'st is bleedingB
Revenge is lost in agonyA
And wild remorse to rage succeedingB
Oh Mariamne where art thouC
Thou canst not hear my bitter pleadingB
Ah could'st thou thou would'st pardon nowC
Though Heaven were to my prayer unheedingB
-
And is she dead and did they dareD
Obey my frenzy's jealous ravingB
My wrath but doom'd my own despairD
The sword that smote her's o'er me wavingB
But thou art cold my murder'd loveE
And this dark heart is vainly cravingB
For her who soars alone aboveE
And leaves my soul unworthy savingB
-
She's gone who shared my diademF
She sunk with her my joys entombingB
I swept that flower from Judah's stemF
Whose leaves for me alone were bloomingB
And mine's the guilt and mine the hellG
This bosom's desolation doomingB
And I have earn'd those tortures wellG
Which unconsumed are still consumingB
