Damaetas. [1] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGG| In law an infant and in years a boy | A |
| In mind a slave to every vicious joy | A |
| From every sense of shame and virtue wean'd | B |
| In lies an adept in deceit a fiend | B |
| Vers'd in hypocrisy while yet a child | C |
| Fickle as wind of inclinations wild | C |
| Woman his dupe his heedless friend a tool | D |
| Old in the world though scarcely broke from school | D |
| Dam tas ran through all the maze of sin | E |
| And found the goal when others just begin | E |
| Ev'n still conflicting passions shake his soul | F |
| And bid him drain the dregs of Pleasure's bowl | F |
| But pall'd with vice he breaks his former chain | G |
| And what was once his bliss appears his bane | G |
