Damætas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGG

In law an infant and in years a boyA
In mind a slave to every vicious joyA
From every sense of shame and virtue wean'dB
In lies an adept in deceit a fiendB
Versed in hypocrisy while yet a childC
Fickle as wind of inclinations wildC
Women his dupe his heedless friend a toolD
Old in the world though scarcely broke from schoolD
Dam tas ran through all the maze of sinE
And found the goal when others just beginE
Even still conflicting passions shake his soulF
And bid him drain the dregs of pleasure's bowlF
But pall'd with vice he breaks his former chainG
And what was once his bliss appears his baneG
