Sing lullaby as women doA
Wherewith they bring their babes to restB
And lullaby can I sing toA
As womanly as can the bestB
With lullaby they still the childC
And if I be not much beguil'dC
Full many wanton babes have ID
Which must be still'd with lullabyD
-
First lullaby my youthful yearsE
It is now time to go to bedF
For crooked age and hoary hairsG
Have won the haven within my headF
With lullaby then youth be stillH
With lullaby content thy willH
Since courage quails and comes behindI
Go sleep and so beguile thy mindI
-
Next lullaby my gazing eyesJ
Which wonted were to glance apaceK
For every glass may now sufficeL
To show the furrows in my faceK
With lullaby then wink awhileM
With lullaby your looks beguileM
Let no fair face nor beauty brightN
Entice you eft with vain delightN
-
And lullaby my wanton willH
Let reason's rule now reign thy thoughtO
Since all too late I find by skillH
How dear I have thy fancies boughtP
With lullaby now take thine easeQ
With lullaby thy doubts appeaseQ
For trust to this if thou be stillH
My body shall obey thy willH
-
Eke lullaby my loving boyR
My little Robin take thy restB
Since age is cold and nothing coyR
Keep close thy coin for so is bestB
With lullaby be thou contentS
With lullaby thy lusts relentS
Let others pay which have mo penceT
Thou art too poor for such expenseT
-
Thus lullaby my youth mine eyesJ
My will my ware and all that wasU
I can no mo delays deviseJ
But welcome pain let pleasure passV
With lullaby now take your leaveW
With lullaby your dreams deceiveW
And when you rise with waking eyeD
Remember Gascoigne's lullabyD
