'And if I did what thenA
Are you aggriev'd thereforeB
The sea hath fish for every manC
And what would you have more 'D
-
Thus did my mistress onceE
Amaze my mind with doubtF
And popp'd a question for the nonceG
To beat my brains aboutF
-
Whereto I thus repliedH
'Each fisherman can wishI
That all the seas at every tideH
Were his alone to fishI
-
'And so did I in vainJ
But since it may not beK
Let such fish there as find the gainJ
And leave the loss for meK
-
'And with such luck and lossL
I will content myselfM
Till tides of turning time may tossL
Such fishers on the shelfM
-
'And when they stick on sandsN
That every man may seeK
Then will I laugh and clap my handsN
As they do now at me '-
