Poet's note: The poem is so much electrifies with the uses of language, through the first line to the last line. “Cries of Berry” is richly in diction (that can be seen in the title). In a nutshell the poem is the analysis of suffering of the blacks (African) citizen in the colonial era and also continue in post-colonial period till date. This can be seen in line 14 ‘The damage that cause by blindfolded fair lady’. This is the illustration of white people that came to African in the aim of enlighten and civilizing them but unknowing they also were blindfolded with ignorance that later led them to hand over the power of governance to blinded African greedy child and power hungry leader that caused much agony to every people in the society and nation at all. This is the reason why symbol is employ at the first line that causes the call of most high power in a form of cloud ‘So high the cloud.’, and also questioning the higher authority for not willing to come to the rescue of black people’s soul from all evil leaders, which instead he draws back which make the distance of cloud to soil of Africa much more than other nation. It is also stated in line 6 and 7 that shallow shout of people without their consecration to follow the will of God will always end up like clamouring shout of clay. Also line 9 says every mouth that devours the resources of nation greedily shall later regret it did. Conclusively, the call was pronounce for help from above to curb the evil doing of devourer in line 12 and to redeem the affected and broken heart with the water of patient and wipe all tears with white garment of hope and joy that is in the hand of Yahweh (‘weh) line 18-24.
