Glum is the sky by night imprisoned | B |
As over it the dark clouds creep | C |
Not menacing or wistful is it | D |
But plunged in dreary torpid sleep | C |
Alone the streaks of lightning bursting | E |
Through cloud and shadow seem to be | F |
As they flare up and blaze conversing | E |
Like deaf mute demons soundlessly | G |
- | |
As at a signal for an instant | H |
A strip of sky is lit and Lo | G |
From out the murk the forests distant | H |
Emerge set suddenly aglow | G |
But the light dies the darkness fleeing | E |
That cloaks the startled wakeful sky | I |
And all is still Is a plot being | E |
Hatched in the silent wastes on high | I |
