The Holy Tide Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD AEAEFGHG

The days are sad it is the Holy tideA
The Winter morn is short the Night is longB
So let the lifeless Hours be glorifiedA
With deathless thoughts and echo'd in sweet songB
And through the sunset of this purple cupC
They will resume the roses of their primeD
And the old Dead will hear us and wake upC
Pass with dim smiles and make our hearts sublimeD
-
The days are sad it is the Holy tideA
Be dusky mistletoes and hollies strownE
Sharp as the spear that pierced His sacred sideA
Red as the drops upon His thorny crownE
No haggard Passion and no lawless MirthF
Fright off the solemn Muse tell sweet old talesG
Sing songs as we sit brooding o'er the hearthH
Till the lamp flickers and the memory failsG
