Under The Pines Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABC DCDEF EFGHG HIJIJ KLKL

LIFE is sad says the wind in the pinesA
To the still soul listeningB
While the pale pale day declinesA
Like a white bird on the wingB
Life is sad says the quiet earthC
-
Under the churchyard wallD
Where the spring flowers have their birthC
And the autumn leaflets fallD
Life is sad say the daisies that blow thereE
And stretch out their heads to the sunF
-
Life is sad say the poor hearts that go thereE
To weep when the day's work is doneF
Life is sad from below from on highG
From forest and meadow and treeH
From the clouds that drift over the skyG
-
And the days that die into the seaH
Then up and be brave with thy sorrowI
Like a man with his face to the blastJ
Not from hope of the joys of to morrowI
Nor rest when the warfare is pastJ
-
-
But strong that weak souls may grow strongK
That men may take heart by the wayL
Till the heavens break forth with the songK
That will herald eternal dayL
