SWEET little upturned facesA
Poor little hands and feetB
Little eyes that are careworn and anxiousC
From hunger and want in the streetB
Hear ye that skylark singingD
-
Like an angel far awayE
'Tis bringing to you a messageF
From the Golden Gates of dayE
Ah little know ye of the meadowsG
Poor little blistered feetB
-
Down in the smoke of the cityH
Down in the noise of the streetB
But it sings of a better countryH
Where tired little hearts can restI
Of a sun that shines for everJ
-
And the love of a Father's breastI
O poor little weary spiritsK
I would that ye knew its songL
For the world is very heartlessC
And your journey may be longL
-
And ye need such heavenly musicM
To cheer you in the nightN
Little hearts that are now so nobleO
Little souls that are now so whiteN
I would that ye heard it alwaysP
-
That sweet bird's voice withinQ
When the heart is sad and lonelyH
In the long long struggle with sinQ
Till a rest comes out of the sunsetR
For the labouring hands and feetB
-
And a silence has fallen for everJ
On the noise and the dust of the streetB
