Lines Written On Finishing The Life Of Milton Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAC DDEFG GFHIJ H

I CLOSED the book but fancied stillA
I heard like distant music rollB
The far off echoes in my soulB
Of his great life I listened tillA
Entranced I thought that I could hearC
-
His grand old voice amid the gloomD
And in the twilight flooded roomD
I almost felt that he was nearE
Thou didst not die O Milton whenF
Thy life on earth had ceased to beG
-
They never die who pass like theeG
Enriching all their brother menF
As often on the edge of mornH
Lingers one star its fellows goneI
Thou shin'st alone and shalt shine onJ
-
An age of ages yet unbornH
