The Ballad Of The Thoughtless Waiter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB ADED FGHI JKLM KII III INOP

I saw him lying cold and deadA
Who yesterday was wholeB
Why I inquired hath he expiredC
And why hath fled his soulB
-
but yesterday his comrade saidA
All health was his and strengthD
And this is why he came to dieE
If I may speak at lengthD
-
But yesternight at dinnertimeF
At a not unknown cafG
He had a frugal meal as youH
Might purchase any dayI
-
The check for his so simple fareJ
Was only eighty centsK
And a dollar bill with a right good willL
Came from his opulenceM
-
The waiter brought him twenty centsK
'Twas only yesternightI
That he softly said who now is deadI
'Oh keep it 'Ats a' right '-
-
And the waiter plainly uttered 'Thanks '-
With no hint of scorn or prideI
And my comrade's heart gave a sudden startI
And my comrade up and diedI
-
Now waiters overthwart this landI
In tearooms and in divesN
Mute be your lips whatever the tipsO
And save your customers' livesP
