Horace Book I OdeA
-
Tu ne quaesieris scire nefasB
quem mihi quem tibiC
-
AD LEUCONOEND
-
-
Nay querry not Leucono the finish of the fableE
Eliminate the worry as to what the years may hoardF
You only waste your time upon the Babylonian TableE
Slang for the ouija boardF
-
And as to whether Jupiter the final unsurpassed oneD
May add a lot of winters to our portion here belowG
Or this impinging season is to be our very last oneD
Really I'd hate to knowG
-
Apply yourself to wisdom Sweep the floor and wash the dishesB
Nor dream about the things you'll do inD
My counsel is to cease to sit and yearn about your wishesB
Cursing the throws of fateH
-
My how I have been chattering on matters sad and pleasantI
Endure with me a moment while I polish off a rhymeJ
If I were you I think I'd bother only with the presentI
Now is the only timeJ
