His Monument Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B BBAA CCDD EEBB

Horace Book III OdeA
-
Exegi monumentum aere perenniusB
-
-
The monument that I have built is durable as brassB
And loftier than the Pyramids which mock the years that passB
No blizzard can destroy it nor furious rain corrodeA
Remember I'm the bard who built the first Horatian OdeA
-
I shall not altogether die a part of me's immortalC
A part of me shall never pass the mortuary portalC
And when I die my fame shall stand the nitric test of timeD
The fame of me of lowly birth who built the lofty rhymeD
-
Ay fame shall be my portion when no trace there is of meE
For I first made olian songs the songs of ItalyE
Accept I pray Melpomene my modest meed of praiseB
And crowm my thinning graying locks with wreathes of Delphic baysB
