Bedbooks Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFG HGHG AIAI AAAA AJA KD D LGLG

There is said to be a steady demand for 'bedbooks'A
in England There are readers who find in Gibbon aB
sedative for tired nerves there are others who enjoyC
Trollope's quiet humour Some people find in HenryD
James's tangled syntax the restful diversion they seekE
and others enjoy Mr Howells's unexciting realismF
The SunG
-
How sleep the brave who sink to restH
Lulled by the waves of dreamy dictionG
Like that appearing in the bestH
Of modern fictionG
-
When sleeplessness the Briton claimsA
And hits him with her wakeful wallopI
He goes to Gibbon or to JamesA
Or maybe TrollopeI
-
No paltry limit such as thoseA
The craving slumber Yankee cursesA
He has a wealth of poppy proseA
And opiate versesA
-
A grain of ought I mention namesA
And say whence sleep may be inspiredJ
Is it the thing to say of JamesA
'He makes me tired '-
-
To say 'a dose of Phillips orK
A capsule of Sinclair or BradyD
Is just the thing to make me snore '-
Oh lackadaydeeD
-
Nay It were churlish to reviewL
And specify by marked attentionG
Our bedbooks They are far too nuL
Merous to mentionG
