The Kelso Road Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON PHQH ARSR

Morning and evening are mineA
And the bright noon dayB
But night to no man doth belongC
When the sad ghosts playB
-
From Kelso town I took the roadD
By the full flood TweedE
The black clouds swept across the moonF
With devouring greedE
-
Seek ye no peace who tread the nightG
I felt above my headH
Blowing the cloud's edge faces wryI
In pale fury spreadH
-
Twelve surly elves were digging gravesJ
Beside black Eden brookK
Eleven dug and stared at meL
But one read in a bookK
-
In Birgham trees and hedges rockedM
The moon was drowned in blackN
At Hirsel woods I shrieked to findO
A fiend astride my backN
-
His legs he closed about my breastP
His hands upon my headH
Till Coldstream lights beamed in the treesQ
And he wailed and fledH
-
Morning and evening are mineA
And the bright noon heatR
But at night the sad thin ghostsS
For their revels meetR
