The Window Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBC DEFGF FHFHF FIFIF| In after years when you look back upon | A |
| This time and upon me who am no more | B |
| Close to your heart nor a shadow in your sun | C |
| Perhaps you will stand still and lean on the door | B |
| Or lay down something feeling quite undone | C |
| - | |
| Some passing stranger or a turn of phrase | D |
| Or any echo or shade will be enough | E |
| Anything that is worn and almost effaced | F |
| Anything half finished will be proof | G |
| I was no natural but an acquired taste | F |
| - | |
| So you will stand there looking back inspired | F |
| As though the curtains parted on some view | H |
| Not quite to be believed in nor desired | F |
| And which did not exist except for you | H |
| Like some clay thing the potter never fired | F |
| - | |
| No it would not be wise to throw the window wide | F |
| Close it quickly before it hurts and go | I |
| About your usual tasks and let time hide | F |
| Beneath mountains of hours what you know | I |
| Cannot be lived again yet has not died | F |
