The Shortness Of Life Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABB CCC DDE FFF GGG HHH

And what's a life A weary pilgrimageA
Whose glory in one day doth fill the stageB
With childhood manhood and decrepit ageB
-
And what's a life The flourishing arrayC
Of the proud summer meadow which to dayC
Wears her green plush and is to morrow hayC
-
Read on this dial how the shades devourD
My short lived winter's day hour eats up the hourD
Alas the total's but from eight to fourE
-
Behold these lilies which Thy hands have madeF
Fair copies of my life and open laidF
To view how soon they droop how soon they fadeF
-
Shade not that dial night will blind too soonG
My nonaged day already points to noonG
How simple is my suit how small my boonG
-
Nor do I beg this slender inch to wileH
The time away or falsely to beguileH
My thoughts with joy here's nothing worth a smileH
