So endlessly the gray lipped seaA
Kept me within his eyeB
And lean he licked his hollow flanksC
And followed up the skyB
-
I was the lark whose song was heardD
When I was lost to sightE
I was the golden arrow loosedF
To pierce the heart of nightE
-
I fled the little earth I climbedG
Above the rising sunH
I met the morning in a blazeI
Before my hour was goneJ
-
I ran beyond the rim of spaceK
Its reins I flung asideL
Laughter was mine and mine was youthM
And all my own was prideL
-
From end to end I knew the wayN
I had no doubt nor fearO
The minutes were a forfeit paidP
To fetch the landfall nearO
-
But all at once my heart I heldQ
My carol frozen diedL
A white cloud laid her cheek to mineR
And wove me to her sideL
-
Her icy fingers clasped my fleshS
Her hair drooped in my faceK
And up we fell and down we roseT
And twisted into spaceK
-
Laughter was mine and mine was youthM
I pressed the edge of lifeU
I kissed the sun and raced the windV
I found immortal strifeU
-
Out of myself I spent myselfW
I lost the mortal shareX
My grave is in the ashen plainY
My spirit in the airX
-
Good bye sweet pride of man that flewZ
Sweet pain of man that bledA2
I was the lark that spilled his heartB2
The golden arrow spedA2
-
So endlessly the gray lipped seaA
Kept me within his eyeB
And lean he licked his hollow flanksC
And followed up the skyB
