Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCEFGFGFF

IT is a statute in deepe wisdomes loreA
That for his lines none should a patro n chuseB
By wealth or pouerty by lesse or moreA
But who the same is able to peruseB
Nor ought a man his labours dedicateC
Without a true and sensible desertD
To any power of such a mighty stateC
And such a wise Defendresse as thou artE
Thou great and powerfull Muse then pardon meeF
That I presume the Mayden cheeke to stayneG
In dedicating such a work to theeF
Sprung from the issue of an idle brayneG
I vse thee as a woman ought to beF
I consecrate my idle howres to theeF
