To The True Patroness Of All Poetry, Calliope Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCEFGFGFF

It is a statute in deep wisdom's loreA
That for his lines none should a patron chuseB
By wealth and poverty by less or moreA
But who the same is able to peruseB
Nor ought a man his labour dedicateC
Without a true and sensible desertD
To any power of such a mighty stateC
But such a wise defendress as thou artE
Thou great and powerful Muse then pardon meF
That I presume thy maiden cheek to stainG
In dedicating such a work to theeF
Sprung from the issue of an idle brainG
I use thee as a woman ought to beF
I consecrate my idle hours to theeF
