The Sparrow's Fall Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD AAEE FFBB GGHH IIJJ JJHH

Too frail to soar a feeble thingA
It fell to earth with fluttering wingA
But God who watches over allB
Beheld that little sparrow's fallB
-
'Twas not a bird with plumage gayC
Filling the air with its morning layC
'Twas not an eagle bold and strongD
Borne on the tempest's wing alongD
-
Only a brown and weesome thingA
With drooping head and listless wingA
It could not drift beyond His sightE
Who marshals the splendid stars of nightE
-
Its dying chirp fell on His earsF
Who tunes the music of the spheresF
Who hears the hungry lion's callB
And spreads a table for us allB
-
Its mission of song at last is doneG
No more will it greet the rising sunG
That tiny bird has found a restH
More calm than its mother's downy breastH
-
Oh restless heart learn thou to trustI
In God so tender strong and justI
In whose love and mercy everywhereJ
His humblest children have a shareJ
-
If in love He numbers ev'ry hairJ
Whether the strands be dark or fairJ
Shall we not learn to calmly restH
Like children on our Father's breastH
