The Dying Queen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDC EFGF HIJI KAFA LMNM OPIP QARA

I would meet death awakeA
-
The strength that bore her on for yearsB
Was ebbing fast awayC
And o'er the pale and life p worn faceD
Death's solemn shadows layC
-
With tender love and gentle careE
Friends gathered round her bedF
And for her sake each footfall hushedG
The echoes of its treadF
-
They knew the restlessness of deathH
Through every nerve did creepI
And carefully they tried to lullJ
The dying Queen to sleepI
-
In vain she felt Death's icy handK
Her failing heart strings shakeA
And rousing up she firmly saidF
I'd meet my God awakeA
-
Awake I've met the battle's shockL
And born the cares of stateM
Nor shall I take your lethean cupN
And slumber at death's gateM
-
Did I not watch with eyes alertO
The path where foes did tendP
And shall I veil my eyes with sleepI
To meet my God and friendP
-
Nay rather from my weary lidsQ
This heavy slumber shakeA
That I may pass the mystic valeR
And meet my God awakeA
