Songs For The People Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH IJGJ KLML GNMN OMPM

Let me make the songs for the peopleA
Songs for the old and youngB
Songs to stir like a battle cryC
Wherever they are sungB
-
Not for the clashing of sabresD
For carnage nor for strifeE
But songs to thrill the hearts of menF
With more abundant lifeE
-
Let me make the songs for the wearyG
Amid life's fever and fretH
Till hearts shall relax their tensionI
And careworn brows forgetH
-
Let me sing for little childrenI
Before their footsteps strayJ
Sweet anthems of love and dutyG
To float o'er life's highwayJ
-
I would sing for the poor and agedK
When shadows dim their sightL
Of the bright and restful mansionsM
Where there shall be no nightL
-
Our world so worn and wearyG
Needs music pure and strongN
To hush the jangle and discordsM
Of sorrow pain and wrongN
-
Music to soothe all its sorrowO
Till war and crime shall ceaseM
And the hearts of men grown tenderP
Girdle the world with peaceM
