President Lincoln's Proclamation Of Freedom Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD AEFE GHGH IJKJ ILML NELE OPOP GQOQ OERE

IT shall flash through coming agesA
It shall light the distant yearsB
And eyes now dim with sorrowC
Shall be clearer through their tearsD
-
It shall flush the mountain rangesA
And the valleys shall grow brightE
It shall bathe the hills in radianceF
And crown their brows with lightE
-
It shall flood with golden splendorG
All the huts of CarolineH
And the sun kissed brow of laborG
With lustre new shall shineH
-
It shall gild the gloomy prisonI
Darken'd by the nation's crimeJ
Where the dumb and patient millionsK
Wait the better coming timeJ
-
By the light that gilds their prisonI
They shall seize its mould'ring keyL
And the bolts and bars shall vibrateM
With the triumphs of the freeL
-
Like the dim and ancient chaosN
Shrinking from the dawn of lightE
Oppression grim and hoaryL
Shall cower at the sightE
-
And her spawn of lies and maliceO
Shall grovel in the dustP
While joy shall thrill the bosomsO
Of the merciful and justP
-
Though the morning seemed to lingerG
O'er the hill tops far awayQ
Now the shadows bear the promiseO
Of the quickly coming dayQ
-
Soon the mists and murky shadowsO
Shall be fringed with crimson lightE
And the glorious dawn of freedomR
Break refulgent on the sightE
