Our Helen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DBEB FGHI JCKC LCM NC COAG NOPG QCRC CSTSOur Helen is a 'perfect love' | A |
Of a blue eyed baby | B |
When she's grown she'll be a belle | C |
And a 'Venus ' may be | B |
- | |
Such a cunning little mouth | D |
Lips as red as cherry | B |
And she smiles on all around | E |
In a way so merry | B |
- | |
Laughs and crows and claps her hands | F |
Springs and hops and dances | G |
As if her little brain overflowed | H |
With lively tripping fancies | I |
- | |
Then she'll arch her pretty neck | J |
And toss her head so queenly | C |
And when she's weary fall asleep | K |
And slumber so serenely | C |
- | |
She has a cunning kind of way | L |
Of looking sly and witty | C |
As if to say in baby words | M |
'I know I'm very pretty ' | - |
- | |
She bites her 'mammy ' scratches 'nurse ' | - |
And makes droll mouths at 'pappy ' | - |
We can but love the roguish thing | N |
She looks so bright and happy | C |
- | |
The dinner table seems to be | C |
The crown of all her wishes | O |
For there the gypsy's sure to have | A |
A hand in all the dishes | G |
- | |
But why should we essay to sing | N |
Her thousand sprightly graces | O |
She has the merriest of ways | P |
The prettiest of faces | G |
- | |
We know she'll grow a peerless one | Q |
With skin all white and pearly | C |
And laughing eyes and auburn locks | R |
All silky soft and curly | C |
- | |
Her baby laugh and sportive glee | C |
Her spirit's airy lightness | S |
Surround the pleasant prairie home | T |
With hues of magic brightness | S |
