Our Helen is a 'perfect love'A
Of a blue eyed babyB
When she's grown she'll be a belleC
And a 'Venus ' may beB
-
Such a cunning little mouthD
Lips as red as cherryB
And she smiles on all aroundE
In a way so merryB
-
Laughs and crows and claps her handsF
Springs and hops and dancesG
As if her little brain overflowedH
With lively tripping fanciesI
-
Then she'll arch her pretty neckJ
And toss her head so queenlyC
And when she's weary fall asleepK
And slumber so serenelyC
-
She has a cunning kind of wayL
Of looking sly and wittyC
As if to say in baby wordsM
'I know I'm very pretty '-
-
She bites her 'mammy ' scratches 'nurse '-
And makes droll mouths at 'pappy '-
We can but love the roguish thingN
She looks so bright and happyC
-
The dinner table seems to beC
The crown of all her wishesO
For there the gypsy's sure to haveA
A hand in all the dishesG
-
But why should we essay to singN
Her thousand sprightly gracesO
She has the merriest of waysP
The prettiest of facesG
-
We know she'll grow a peerless oneQ
With skin all white and pearlyC
And laughing eyes and auburn locksR
All silky soft and curlyC
-
Her baby laugh and sportive gleeC
Her spirit's airy lightnessS
Surround the pleasant prairie homeT
With hues of magic brightnessS
