N. P. Rogers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD CECE AAAA FGFG HIHI AJDJ FAKA HEHE

Rogers will not future storyA
Tell thy glorious fameB
And in hues of living gloryA
Robe thy spotless nameB
-
There was more than mortal seemingC
In thy wondrous eyeD
Like a silv'ry star ray gleamingC
Through a liquid skyD
-
Of that angel spirit tellingC
Noble clear and brightE
In thy 'inner temple' dwellingC
Veiled from mortal sightE
-
Of that spirit meek and lowlyA
Yet so bold and freeA
In its all absorbing holyA
Love of LibertyA
-
Thou didst leave us gentle brotherF
In thy manhood's prideG
And we vainly seek anotherF
Heart so true and triedG
-
Thou art dwelling with the angelsH
In the spirit landI
Chanting low and sweet evangelsH
'Mid a seraph bandI
-
But when Freedom's champions rallyA
'Gainst the despot's swayJ
Then they mourn the friend and allyD
That has passed awayJ
-
And when Liberty's bright bannerF
Waves o'er land and seaA
And is heard the loud hosannaK
Of the ransomed freeA
-
On its silken folds in lettersH
Traced with diamond brightE
Shall thy name the foe of fettersH
Blaze in hues of lightE
