I Thirst Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGHG A H HIJI KLDL LIMI

FIRST VOICEA
-
I thirst but earth cannot allayB
The fever coursing through my veinsC
The healing stream is far awayB
It flows through Salem's lovely plainsC
-
The murmurs of its crystal flowD
Break ever o'er this world of strifeE
My heart is weary let me goD
To bathe it in the stream of lifeE
-
For many worn and weary heartsF
Have bathed in this pure healing streamG
And felt their griefs and cares departH
E'en like some sad forgotten dreamG
-
-
SECOND VOICEA
-
The Word is nigh thee even in thy heartH
-
Say not within thy weary heartH
Who shall ascend aboveI
To bring unto thy fever'd lipsJ
The fount of joy and loveI
-
Nor do thou seek to vainly delveK
Where death's pale angels treadL
To hear the murmur of its flowD
Around the silent deadL
-
Within in thee is one living fountL
Fed from the springs aboveI
There quench thy thirst till thou shalt batheM
In God's own sea of loveI
