I'm tired I'm tired of life brotherA
Of all that meets my eyeB
And my weary spirit fain would passC
To worlds beyond the skyB
For there is naught on earth brotherA
For which I'd wish to liveD
Not all the glittering gauds of wealthE
One hour of peace can giveF
-
I'm weary sick at heart brotherA
Of heartless pomp and showG
And ever comes some cloud to dimH
The little joy I knowG
This world is not the world brotherA
It seemed in days agoneG
When I viewed it through the rainbow mistsI
Of childhood's rosy dawnG
-
I would not pain your heart brotherA
I know you love me wellJ
And that love is laid upon my soulK
E'en as a holy spellJ
But I'm weary of this world brotherA
This world of sin and careL
And my spirit fluttereth to be freeM
To mount the upper airL
-
I know not of the world brotherA
To which I wish to goG
And perhaps my soul may there awakeN
To know a deeper woeG
They say the pure of earth brotherA
Find there undying blissO
While all the wicked ones are castP
Into a dark abyssO
-
I look upon the stars brotherA
That gem the vault of blueQ
And when they tell me 'God is love '-
I feel it must be trueQ
For I see on all around brotherA
The impress of a handR
That blendeth and uniteth allS
In one harmonious bandR
-
I am that which I am brotherA
As the Creator madeT
To Him all holy and all pureU
No fault can e'er be laidT
He knows my weakness well brotherA
And I can trust his loveV
To bear me safe through Jordan's streamW
To brighter worlds aboveV
