He Had Not Where To Lay His Head Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON PQRQ

The conies had their hiding placeA
The wily fox with stealthy treadB
A covert found but Christ the LordC
Had not a place to lay his headB
-
The eagle had an eyrie homeD
The blithesome bird its quiet restE
But not the humblest spot on earthF
Was by the Son of God possessedE
-
Princes and kings had palacesG
With grandeur could adorn each tombH
For Him who came with love and lifeI
They had no home they gave no roomH
-
The hands whose touch sent thrills of joyJ
Through nerves unstrung and palsied frameK
The feet that travelled for our needL
Were nailed unto the cross of shameK
-
How dare I murmur at my lotM
Or talk of sorrow pain and lossN
When Christ was in a manger laidO
And died in anguish on the crossN
-
That homeless one beheld beyondP
His lonely agonizing painQ
A love outflowing from His heartR
That all the wandering world would gainQ
