Ellen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFEGEG HIHJ KHK

Sweet star of seraph brightnessA
That for a transient dayB
Shed o'er our souls such lightnessA
And then withdrew the rayB
O with immortal lustreC
Thou 'rt sparkling brightly nowD
Amid the gems that clusterC
Around Jehovah's browD
-
Yet many hearts are keepingE
Lone vigils o'er thy graveF
Where all the hopes are sleepingE
Which thy young promise gaveF
The sleep which knows no wakingE
Hath closed thy sweet blue eyesG
And while our hearts are breakingE
We glance toward the skiesG
-
Ah there a hope is givenH
That bids us dry the tearI
That bright star in the heavenH
With beams so wondrous clearJ
'Tis Ellen's 'distant Aidenn '-
Far in the realms aboveK
And those clear rays are ladenH
With her pure spirit's loveK
