Church Building Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKCK LMNM OPFP LQF

Uncle Jacob often told usA
Since freedom blessed our raceB
We ought all to come togetherC
And build a meeting placeB
-
So we pinched and scraped and sparedD
A little here and thereE
Though our wages was but scantyF
The church did get a shareE
-
And when the house was finishedG
Uncle Jacob came to prayH
He was looking mighty feebleI
And his head was awful grayH
-
But his voice rang like a trumpetJ
His eyes looked bright and youngK
And it seemed a mighty powerC
Was resting on his tongueK
-
And he gave us all his blessingL
'Twas parting words he saidM
For soon we got the messageN
The dear old man was deadM
-
But I believe he's in the kingdomO
For when we shook his handP
He said 'Children you must meet meF
Right in the promised landP
-
'For when I done a moilingL
And toiling here belowQ
Through the gate into the cityF
Straightway I hope to go '-
