Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKCK LMNM OPFP LQFUncle Jacob often told us | A |
Since freedom blessed our race | B |
We ought all to come together | C |
And build a meeting place | B |
- | |
So we pinched and scraped and spared | D |
A little here and there | E |
Though our wages was but scanty | F |
The church did get a share | E |
- | |
And when the house was finished | G |
Uncle Jacob came to pray | H |
He was looking mighty feeble | I |
And his head was awful gray | H |
- | |
But his voice rang like a trumpet | J |
His eyes looked bright and young | K |
And it seemed a mighty power | C |
Was resting on his tongue | K |
- | |
And he gave us all his blessing | L |
'Twas parting words he said | M |
For soon we got the message | N |
The dear old man was dead | M |

But I believe he's in the kingdom | O |
For when we shook his hand | P |
He said 'Children you must meet me | F |
Right in the promised land | P |

'For when I done a moiling | L |
And toiling here below | Q |
Through the gate into the city | F |
Straightway I hope to go ' | - |
