Bible Defense Of Slavery Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HIHI JAJA KLKL

Take sackcloth of the darkest dyeA
And shroud the pulpits roundB
Servants of Him that cannot lieA
Sit mourning on the groundB
-
Let holy horror blanch each cheekC
Pale every brow with fearsD
And rocks and stones if ye could speakC
Ye well might melt to tearsE
-
Let sorrow breathe in every toneF
In every strain ye raiseG
Insult not God's majestic throneF
With th' mockery of praiseG
-
A 'reverend' man whose light should beH
The guide of age and youthI
Brings to the shrine of SlaveryH
The sacrifice of truthI
-
For the direst wrong by man imposedJ
Since Sodom's fearful cryA
The word of life has been unclos'dJ
To give your God the lieA
-
Oh When ye pray for heathen landsK
And plead for their dark shoresL
Remember Slavery's cruel handsK
Make heathens at your doorsL
