Oh children of the tropicsA
Amid our pain and wrongB
Have you no other missionC
Than music dance and songB
-
When through the weary agesD
Our dripping tears still fallE
Is this a time to dallyF
With pleasure's silken thrallE
-
Go muffle all your violsD
As heroes learn to standG
With faith in God's great justiceD
Nerve every heart and handG
-
Dream not of ease nor pleasureH
Nor honor wealth nor fameI
Till from the dust you've liftedJ
Our long dishonored nameI
-
And crowned that name with gloryF
By deeds of holy worthK
To shine with light emblazonedL
The noblest name on earthK
-
Count life a dismal failureH
Unblessing and unblestL
That seeks 'mid ease ingloriousD
For pleasure or for restL
-
With courage strength and valorH
Your lives and actions braceD
Shrink not from toil or hardshipM
And dangers bravely faceD
-
Engrave upon your bannersD
In words of golden lightL
That honor truth and justiceD
Are more than godless mightL
-
Above earth's pain and sorrowN
Christ's dying face I seeF
I hear the cry of anguishO
Why hast thou forsaken meF
-
In the pallor of that anguishO
I see the only lightL
To flood with peace and gladnessF
Earth's sorrow pain and nightL
-
Arrayed in Christly armorH
'Gainst error crime and sinP
The victory can't be doubtfulQ
For God is sure to winP
