To The Wissahiccon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDEFGFGBHBHIJKK HHLLMMININMMLL

My feet shall tread no more thy mossy sideA
When once they turn away thou Pleasant WaterB
Nor ever more reflected in thy tideA
Will shine the eyes of the White Island's daughterB
But often in my dreams when I am goneC
Beyond the sea that parts thy home and mineD
Upon thy banks the evening sun will shineD
And I shall hear thy low still flowing onE
And when the burden of existence liesF
Upon my soul darkly and heavilyG
I'll clasp my hands over my weary eyesF
Thou Pleasant Water and thy clear waves seeG
Bright be thy course for ever and for everB
Child of pure mountain springs and mountain snowH
And as thou wanderest on to meet the riverB
Oh still in light and music mayst thou flowH
I never shall come back to thee againI
When once my sail is shadowed on the mainJ
Nor ever shall I hear thy laughing voiceK
As on their rippling way thy waves rejoiceK
Nor ever see the dark green cedar throwH
Its gloomy shade o'er the clear depths belowH
Never from stony rifts of granite grayL
Sparkling like diamond rocks in the sun's rayL
Shall I look down on thee thou pleasant streamM
Beneath whose crystal folds the gold sands gleamM
Wherefore farewell but whensoe'er againI
The wintry spell melts from the earth and airN
And the young Spring comes dancing through thy glenI
With fragrant flowery breath and sunny hairN
When through the snow the scarlet berries gleamM
Like jewels strewn upon thy banks fair streamM
My spirit shall through many a summer's dayL
Return among thy peaceful woods to strayL
