I am alone oh be thou near to meA
Great God from whom the meanest are not farB
Not in presumption of the daring spiritC
Striving to find the secrets of itselfD
Make I my weeping prayer in the deep wantE
Of utter loneliness my God I seek theeA
If the worm may creep up to thy fellowshipF
Or dust instinct with yearning rise towards theeA
I have no fellow Father of my kindG
None that be kindred none companion to meA
And the vast love and harmony and brotherhoodH
Of the dumb creatures thou hast made below meA
Vexes my soul with its own bitter lotI
Around me grow the trees each by the otherJ
Innumerable leaves each like the otherJ
Whisper and breathe and live and move togetherJ
Around me spring the flowers each rosy cupK
Hath sisters leaning their fair cheeks against itL
The birds fly all above me not aloneM
But coupled in free fellowship or musteringN
A joyous band weeping in companiesO
The wide blue fields between the clouds the cloudsP
Troop in society each on the otherJ
Shedding like sympathy reflected lightQ
The waves a multitude together runR
To the great breast of the receiving seaA
Nothing but hath its kind its companyA
Oh God save I alone then let me comeS
Good Father to thy feet when even as nowT
Tears that no human hand is near to wipeU
O'erbrim my eyes oh wipe them thou my FatherJ
When in my heart the stores of its affectionsV
Piled up unused locked fast are like to burstW
The fleshly casket that may not contain themX
Let me come nigh to thee accept thou themX
Dear Father Fount of Love Compassionate GodY
When in my spirit burns the fire the powerJ
That have made men utter the words of angelsZ
And none are near to bid me speak and liveA2
Hearken oh Father Maker of my spiritC
God of my soul to thee I will outpourB2
The hymns resounding through my troubled mindG
The sighs and sorrows of my lonely heartC2
The tears and weeping of my weary eyesD2
Be thou my fellow glorious gracious GodY
And fit me for such fellowship with theeA
