On A Musical Box Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBABACDCEFFGFFGHI JIKLKLICICCGCGMEMEII INNI

Poor little sprite in that dark narrow cellA
Caged by the law of man's resistless mightB
With thy sweet liquid notes by some strong spellA
Compelled to minister to his delightB
Whence what art thou art thou a fairy wightB
Caught sleeping in some lily's snowy bellA
Where thou hadst crept to rock in the moonlightB
And drink the starry dew drops as they fellA
Say dost thou think sometimes when thou art singingC
Of thy wild haunt upon the mountain's browD
Where thou wert wont to list the heath bells ringingC
And sail upon the sunset's amber glowE
When thou art weary of thy oft told themeF
Say dost thou think of the clear pebbly streamF
Upon whose mossy brink thy fellows playG
Dancing in circles by the moon's soft beamF
Hiding in blossoms from the sun's fierce gleamF
Whilst thou in darkness sing'st thy life awayG
And canst thou feel when the spring time returnsH
Filling the earth with fragrance and with gleeI
When in the wide creation nothing mournsJ
Of all that lives save that which is not freeI
Oh if thou couldst and we could hear thy prayerK
How would thy little voice beseeching cryL
For one short draught of the sweet morning airK
For one short glimpse of the clear azure skyL
Perchance thou sing'st in hope thou shalt be freeI
Sweetly and patiently thy task fulfillingC
While thy sad thoughts are wandering with the beeI
To every bud with honey dew distillingC
That hope is vain for even couldst thou wingC
Thy homeward flight back to the greenwood gayG
Thou'dst be a shunned and a forsaken thingC
'Mongst the companions of thy happier dayG
For fairy sprites like many other creaturesM
Bear fleeting memories that come and goE
Nor can they oft recall familiar featuresM
By absence touched or clouded o'er with woeE
Then rest content with sorrow for there beI
Many that must that lesson learn with theeI
And still thy wild notes warble cheerfullyI
Till when thy tiny voice begins to failN
For thy lost bliss sing but one parting wailN
Poor little sprite and then sleep peacefullyI
