Absence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JKJK LCKC MGMG KNKN

What shall I do with all the days and hoursA
That must be counted ere I see thy faceB
How shall I charm the interval that lowersA
Between this time and that sweet time of graceB
-
Shall I in slumber steep each weary senseC
Weary with longing shall I flee awayD
Into past days and with some fond pretenceC
Cheat myself to forget the present dayD
-
Shall love for thee lay on my soul the sinE
Of casting from me God's great gift of timeF
Shall I these mists of memory locked withinE
Leave and forget life's purposes sublimeF
-
Oh how or by what means may I contriveG
To bring the hour that brings thee back more nearH
How may I teach my drooping hope to liveG
Until that blessed time and thou art hereI
-
I'll tell thee for thy sake I will lay holdJ
Of all good aims and consecrate to theeK
In worthy deeds each moment that is toldJ
While thou beloved one art far from meK
-
For thee I will arouse my thoughts to tryL
All heavenward flights all high and holy strainsC
For thy dear sake I will walk patientlyK
Through these long hours nor call their minutes painsC
-
I will this dreary blank of absence makeM
A noble task time and will therein striveG
To follow excellence and to o'ertakeM
More good than I have won since yet I liveG
-
So may this doomed time build up in meK
A thousand graces which shall thus be thineN
So may my love and longing hallowed beK
And thy dear thought an influence divineN
