F alse beauty that costs me so dearA
R ough indeed a hypocrite sweetnessB
A mor like iron on the teeth and harderC
N amed only to achieve my sure distressD
C harm that's murderous poor heart's deathE
O covert pride that sends men to ruinF
I mplacable eyes won't true redressD
S uccour a poor man without crushingG
-
M uch better elsewhere to search forH
A id it would have been more to my honourH
R etreat I must and fly with dishonourH
T hough none else then would have cast a lureH
H elp me help me you greater and lesserH
E nd then With not even one blow landingG
Or will Pity in line with all I ask hereH
Succour a poor man without crushingG
-
That time will come that will surely witherH
Your bright flower it will wilt and yellowI
Then if I can grin I'll call on laughterH
But yet that would be foolish thoughI
You'll be pale and ugly and I'll be oldJ
Drink deep then while the stream's still flowingG
And don't bring trouble on all men soI
Succour a poor man without crushingG
-
Amorous Prince the greatest loverH
I want no evil that's of your doingG
But by God all noble hearts must offerH
To succour a poor man without crushingG
