The Log Fire Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFEG HIHI JHJH HKHK LMLM

In her last hour of life the treeA
Gave up her glorious memoriesB
Wild scent of wood anemoneC
The sapphire blue of April skiesD
-
With faint but ever strength'ning flameE
The dew drenched hyacinthine spiresF
Were lost as red gold bracken cameE
With maple bathed in living firesG
-
Grey smoke of ancient clematisH
Towards the silver birch inclinedI
And deep in thorny fastnessesH
The coral bryony entwinedI
-
Then softly through the dusky roomJ
They strayed fair ghosts of other daysH
With breath like early cherry bloomJ
With tender eyes and gentle waysH
-
They glimmered on the sombre wallsH
They danced upon the oaken floorK
Till through the loudly silent hallsH
Joy reigned majestical once moreK
-
Up blazed the fire and dazzling clearL
One rapturous Spirit radiant stoodM
'Twas you at last Yes YOU my dearL
We two were back in Gatcombe WoodM
