The Little House Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDBB EEBB FFGG BBFF HHII FFCC

One yestereve in the waning lightA
When the wind was still and the gloaming brightA
There came a breath from a far countrieB
And the ghost of a Little House called to meC
-
Have you forgotten me No I criedD
Your hall was as narrow as this is wideD
Your roof was leaky the rain came throughB
Till a ceiling fell on my new frock tooB
-
In your parlour flooring a loose board hidE
And wore the carpet you know it didE
Your kitchen was small and the shelves were fewB
While the fireplace smoked and you know it's trueB
-
The little ghost sighed Do you quite forgetF
My window boxes of mignonetteF
And the sunny room where you used to sewG
When a great hope came to you long agoG
-
Ah me How you used to watch the doorB
Where a latch key turned on the stroke of fourB
And you made the tea and you poured it outF
From an old brown pot with a broken spoutF
-
Now times have changed And your footman waitsH
With the silver urn and the fluted platesH
But the little blind Love with the wings has flownI
Who used to sit by your warm hearth stoneI
-
The little ghost paused Then Away I saidF
Back to your place with the quiet deadF
Back to your place lest my servants seeC
That the ghost of a Little House calls to meC
