Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDBEEFFGGHH I I JKKJLLMMSee I am cumbered Lord | A |
With serving and with small vexatious things | B |
Upstairs and down my feet | C |
Must hasten sure and fleet | C |
So weary that I cannot heed Thy word | D |
So tired I cannot now mount up with wings | B |
I wrestle how I wrestle through the hours | E |
Nay not with principalities nor powers | E |
Dark spiritual foes of God's and man's | F |
But with antagonistic pots and pans | F |
With footmarks in the hall | G |
With smears upon the wall | G |
With doubtful ears and small unwashen hands | H |
And with a babe's innumerable demands | H |
- | |
I toil with feverish haste while tear drops glisten | I |
- | |
O child of mine be still And listen listen | I |
- | |
At last I laid aside | J |
Important work no other hands could do | K |
So well I thought no skill contrive so true | K |
And with my heart's door open open wide | J |
With leisured feet and idle hands I sat | L |
I foolish fussy blind as any bat | L |
Sat down to listen and to learn And lo | M |
My thousand tasks were done the better so | M |
