The Housewife Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDBEEFFGGHH I I JKKJLLMM

See I am cumbered LordA
With serving and with small vexatious thingsB
Upstairs and down my feetC
Must hasten sure and fleetC
So weary that I cannot heed Thy wordD
So tired I cannot now mount up with wingsB
I wrestle how I wrestle through the hoursE
Nay not with principalities nor powersE
Dark spiritual foes of God's and man'sF
But with antagonistic pots and pansF
With footmarks in the hallG
With smears upon the wallG
With doubtful ears and small unwashen handsH
And with a babe's innumerable demandsH
-
I toil with feverish haste while tear drops glistenI
-
O child of mine be still And listen listenI
-
At last I laid asideJ
Important work no other hands could doK
So well I thought no skill contrive so trueK
And with my heart's door open open wideJ
With leisured feet and idle hands I satL
I foolish fussy blind as any batL
Sat down to listen and to learn And loM
My thousand tasks were done the better soM
